Thoughts

From Joyce Wallace In July 1976, I moved from Cumbria to Penrhyn-coch Near Aberystwyth with my husband Paul and two children Helen 6 and Magnus.3. Mid-Wales was another universe and another age after Carlisle and Newcastle upon Tyne and my question to Paul was a frequent moan WHY here. I found it hard to settle and was a long way from home and family. One lovely sunny morning I walked out with the children into the village square on my way to the village post office. Please believe me, when I say that one of the highlights of my day was a trip to the local shop. From the top of the road leading into the village square I saw a rather large pram being wheeled down at great speed with the owner of the pram waving wildly and shouting ‘Stop, are you the hinny from Newcastle’ The pram loomed larger as it neared the Post Office and I stood with the children in amazement just waiting for the pram to arrive at my feet. It is a vision seared into my brain and one of pure joy which I can still recall as clearly today. I knew then I would survive. We were not short of things to discuss and even though we were never in each other’s pockets, we could just meet up in Aber and end up screaming with laughter about absolutely nothing. We both craved to be back in the North East and I am so pleased Dot had these years in Rothbury in her beloved Northumberland and near to her grandchildren. Love Joyce, Paul Helen and Magnus.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
